The SMUUF service will be held at First Lutheran Church, 130 W. Holland St, San Marcos, TX, at our regular time of 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 22. The purpose is to hold a trial service at this location to give our congregation a better idea of whether we want to begin having our services there in the future. We will hear from Pastor Tim Bauerkemper during the service.
*We will also be holding elections/confirmations for new Board of Trustees Members at our annual congregational meeting on Sunday, June 22nd, right after the Service. If you are a member who is unable to attend in person, please reach out with your vote to Board@smuuf.org. As of now, the service will not be available for livestream.
If we do decide to move our services to the First Lutheran Church, we could hold them on Sunday mornings at whatever time we decide. However, we would be meeting in the gym that is used during the week for kids’ activities. That means we will have a significant amount of set-up and take-down each Sunday, requiring lots of volunteers from the congregation to help with that each time. We hope that as many people as possible come to this service on June 22 at 1:00 pm, so we can get a better understanding of the pros and cons of a tentative SMUUF relocation to the Lutheran Church. If you have questions, please contact Lisa at lcradit@tlu.edu or Dan at mistergibson@outlook.com
Pastor Tim Bauerkemper came to San Marcos in September 2015. He is excited about the renewal of First Lutheran through reconnecting with the San Marcos community. Tim grew up in Austin, Texas. While he attended Texas Lutheran University, he worked in outdoor ministry for two summers and spent a summer as a full‐time maintenance volunteer with the Austin Steam Train Association. After college, he moved north to attend Trinity Lutheran Seminary in Columbus, Ohio. Pastor Tim is not a believer in highly model-based ‘off the shelf’ ministry. His toolbox for ministry is ears. His focus in ministry is to engage people, as both individuals and communities, in conversation about their gifts and how God is working in and through their lives to do ministry. He loves to facilitate group conversation around mission, purpose, and seeking the voice of the Holy Spirit to guide ministry. Another aspect of his ministry is community involvement. Tim and his wife, Jennifer, met while they were students at Texas Lutheran and married in July of 2000. She has been a software developer at Labatt Food Service for 17 years. He has two sons, Lukas (8 years old) and Benjamin (5 years old). Their family also includes a beagle, a basset hound, a turtle, and some pond fish. When not doing church ministry, the family can be found camping in state parks. Pastor Tim loves kayaking, fishing, and almost any activity involving water.
