Even as we ride the wheel of the year, UU’s can be oddly inattentive to the cycles of this world. Perhaps our worship of progress, has obscured our ability to understand how darkness and destruction are essential. In a time when people in power are doing all they can to claim more power, let’s go learn learn from the old story of Easter – when Empire sought to crush resistance, and when the community found ways to love after loss.
Rev. Nell Newton completed her ministerial internship at SMUUF in 2015 and has wandered far and wide since then. Most recently, she served the church in San Antonio but is now a free-range preacher. She lives in Austin with her family, three cats, a flock of chickens, and an overgrown garden.
