Know Your Rights!
In this training conducted by our good friend Karen Muñoz, you will learn, among other things, what a proper Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) warrant looks like and under what
circumstances you are allowed to refuse ICE entry into your home. If ICE is in your neighborhood targeting someone, it will be helpful to know whether or not you are allowed to videotape the ICE agents in action. Designed to spread knowledge widely, the Know Your Rights training also addresses a lot of the alarming misinformation that is found online and has been circulating on the Texas State campus recently.
Karen Muñoz is Associate Counsel at Latino Justice PRLDEF, a national civil rights organization, where she focuses on policing and prisons and immigrant rights issues. She’s been part of the immigrant rights movement since 2017 when she supported deportation
defense work in Hays County and co-founded Mano Amiga. Karen is a member of the steering committee of the National Lawyers Guild Texas/Oklahoma region and serves on the board of the Texas Unitarian Universalist Justice Ministry. She has lived in San Marcos since 2012, save the three years she lived in San Antonio to attend law school. She is an alumna of Texas State University and graduated from St. Mary’s University School of Law in 2022.
