Voices at The Table – Social Location Mapping – September 1, 2024 at 1:00 pm

This Sunday We are the Voices at the Table!

Join us for a fun but serious exploration of who we are in relation to one another through an analysis of where we sit in the big scheme of things.

Using a Social Location Map to self-rate our position in 18 different categories, we will take time to individually ponder the meaning of this social location, then discuss in small groups what we feel like sharing. This exercise, facilitated by our own Carmen Rumbaut, is meant to help us as a congregation find routes to belonging for all of us, no matter our social location.

Carmen Rumbaut was born in Cuba and immigrated with her family when she was 5. She grew up in Florida, New Mexico, Kansas and Texas. She received her Masters in Social Work at the University of Texas at Austin, then specialized in child sexual abuse. Ten years later, she returned to get a law degree and worked in civil rights and then family law.

Married and divorced three times, Carmen has no children. However, a stepdaughter lets her play Abuela (grandmother) to her four daughters.

Carmen traveled to Nepal and India to study Buddhism and the Tibetan language. Now retired, she volunteers at several climate organizations and enjoys the arts and her freedom.
