SMUUF has a long history of engaging with the Hays County Child Protective Board (HCCPB) as an outreach program for families in need. They have been chosen as our July recipient of Donate-The-Plate. The purpose of Hays County Child Protective Board (HCCPB) is to address the needs of children and families who are clients of DFPS Hays County Child Protective Services (CPS) because of abuse or neglect.
The Department of Family and Protective Services 2023 Data Book reports that in Hays County 624 abused or neglected children were served by CPS and, by extension, HCCPB-throughout Hays County. This number includes 283 children in substitute care (foster or kinship care), 47 young adults in the Preparation for Adult Living program, and 294 children receiving preventive services with the goal of keeping their families united. Please donate as you are able throughout the month of July using information the Giving Page or during services. See the letter to SMUUF for their wonderful response to prior years donations.
“Because of your generosity, we’ve had the joy of saying “yes” to funding requests, large and small, that have made incalculable differences in the lives of children and families: that second pair of glasses for the child who has broken the single pair paid for by the state; the set of bunk beds that grandparents need to provide safe sleeping for their grandchildren; the fees for music and sports camps, which enrich foster youths’ school experience and allow them to enjoy some of the extras that give them a feeling of belonging; high-quality child care during winter and spring breaks; gas money to enable parents who are working to be reunited with their children to travel for family visits; and holiday and birthday gifts, back-to-school clothing, and emergency clothing needs.”
